Night of Comedy – Annual Auction, this FRIDAY the 29th

Join our friends at Friends of Mt.Washington School (FOMWS) for a great evening out that will also benefit our children.  This year’s auction theme is a Night of Comedy (because our budget is a joke…) The event will be held at the Los Angeles River Center from 6:30-10:00pm.  We can all use an evening out with our fellow parents where we can help our kids and laugh in the face of our troubles.  So come away for a night of fun because “laughter is an instant vacation” – Milton Berle.

Last week to buy your tickets!  $15 pre-sale. We will be selling tickets all week in the morning by the Parent Center.  For parents who can't make it to the event, any tickets bought will also enter you into a raffle for a day at a wonderful spa.  Child care issues?  Buy your tickets for Carlin G's "Kids' Night Out" $8 pre-sale, 5 pm - 10 pm. What a deal!

Thank you to all the parents who have contributed to their classroom basket/projects!  We have some amazing items this year, but the only way to bid is to come to the Auction.  See you there!

The Spring Scholastic Book Fair is here! Tuesday the 26th & Wednesday the 27th

The Scholastic Book Fair is back.  It will be held in the Jack and Denny Smith Library both days from 8:15 till 1:30pn on Tuesday and till 2:30pm on Wednesday.  The children will have the opportunity to look at books with their class and to purchase them during the school day. Please send your children with money if you would like them to be able to purchase books.  They will create their wish lists on Tuesday so that you can have a chance to see what they are interested in getting.  Books will be sold on both days.  Parents are welcome to visit the Book Fair and purchase books on both days during the school day, please sign in at the front office before you go down to the Library.

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week is coming up next week, May 2nd-6th

We will kick off the festivities for the week on Monday (May 2nd) by having every child bring a flower to present to their teacher at the morning assembly. Your room representative will have other information and ideas about how you and your child may celebrate the dedicated teachers and staff of Mt. Washington Elementary. This week is a great opportunity to teach our children the importance of gratitude and saying thank you to the wonderful teachers and staff who touch our children’s lives on a daily basis. Perhaps talk to your child this week about gratitude and see if he/she has some ideas about what they'd like to do to show their teacher their appreciation. The more involved we can get our children, the more meaningful it becomes.

Some quick ideas on what you and your child can do:

Write a thank you note or letter.

Bring or make your teacher lunch or a healthy snack one day and bring it in the morning.

Treat them to a cup of coffee or tea from their favorite coffee house.

Get together with several other parents and create a take home dinner so they don’t have to cook that night. Include a soup or salad, a main course, a side dish and a desert.

Anything that you and your child can think of to make the week special for them are the types of things this week is all about.
