STARGAZING NIGHT, FRIDAY, MARCH 1ST! CHECK OUT WHAT FOMWS & PTA HAVE PLANNED FOR YOU!

Starting at 6:00pm Border Grill Truck will be offering dinner and dessert and will be donating 15% of all evening sales back to MWES! You can also help support our 6th graders by buying a beverage! And lots of other "fun stuff". Then StarGazing will begin at 7:00pm with an awesome slide show followed by telescope viewing. See Jupiter (our largest planet) and four of it's moons through our giant telescope that is four times stronger than the one at the Griffith Park Observatory! Travel back in time 1,500 years as we see the Great Orion Nebula, a stellar nursery where stars are being born, and the Pleiades, also known as "The Seven Sisters" one of the most famous star clusters in all of mythology, plus many other deep space objects.

So bring your family, friends, neighbors and join us for another wonderful evening under the stars ~ help us earn much needed funds for our Mt. Washington Elementary School. Spring submission for BoxTops For Education this school year ends 3/1/13, we need all qualifying box tops dropped off in Parent Center BY TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 26th! Absolute LAST DAY! So everyone’s help and support with this last Spring effort would be greatly appreciated. This is an easy way to earn money for our school, please turn in your BoxTops! SINGLE/CO-PARENTING WORKSHOP, THURSDAY, MARCH 7, 2013 FROM 6:00 – 8:00PM

NEW AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAM: CIRCUS ARTS: BY STILT CIRCUS

This class will be taught by Rebecca Nelson, circus performer for Stilt Circus and coach and performer for Cirque du Soleil’s Cirque de Monde. Students will explore elements of circus arts by practicing juggling, hula hoop, spinning plates, feather balancing, poi spinning, theatrical character exploration, light acrobatics and more. They will have the opportunity to create a character with costumes, make their own center-ring top hat, learn how to walk on junior can stilts, and much more. This is an all levels class. K-6 will be divided into skill level groups. Classes will be on Fridays at 2:45 pm in the MPR, with the first class starting on Friday, March 15th. Tuition for this 10 week series is $111. FOMWS: THE GREEN TEAM

We are having such success with the weekly turnout, we now need of more volunteers for the Monday morning collections. It's an easy way to raise money for MWE with minimal effort. Sign up for what you can take on, one or two Mondays a month from 7:40-8:20. No meetings to attend! We are also looking for a couple volunteers to run the Green Team next school year. Interested? email kf@kathleenferguson.com. What does Green Team collect? Green Team collects: Plastic bottles and containers (with 1 or 2 in the triangle recycling stamp), Glass bottles and jars, and Aluminum drink cans. Green Team does NOT collect: tin food cans or paper products. Please recycle those items at home. Green Team will collect every Monday, EXCEPT if it's raining or a holiday. We will collect on Tuesdays if the school is closed on Monday for a holiday, and the following Monday if it's raining. Thank you for bringing us your recycling!

CRESCENDO YOUNG MUSICIANS GUILD (CYMG) UPDATES

CYMG's Spring Semester is under way! All classes resumed February 16th (except Voice Class, which begins March 2nd). Tuition for the spring 2013 quarter is due on the first day of class. PLEASE check the website (http://cymg.org/programs) for the updated amount for your class this semester (it's less than last semester!).

CYMG Spring Break is 3/28 - 4/3. Don't remember if you have class? Check our calendar! 

CYMG is accepting new students for the Voice, Training Ensemble, and Chamber Strings classes this semester.  There's still time to register, so invite your friends to join CYMG today! http://cymg.org/registration/ (Current students need not re-register for spring semester).

The Spring Semester Concert is June 1st. CYMG is also planning a performance at Kingsley Manor, an assisted-living facility, so we can serve our community through music! More details to come.

Also, it's time to start planning CYMG’s fabulous Annual Gala!! CYMG’s first one was a success--kudos to the small committee of volunteers who put it all together. Let's make this year's even better! The more volunteers we have, the less each person has to do. CYMG need YOUR help! There are MANY different ways you can get involved. There are still a few spots open for participation in the third session of Hightouch Hightech.  Classes are on Wednesdays in the MPR from 2:45-3:45 pm.  If lots more students signup, there will be a second class from 3:45-4:45pm.  Tuition for this session is $96.  For additional details, please see the 3rd Session Science Flyer. 

Clay Jammers class starts this Monday, February 11th from 2:30 to 4:00 in Room 16.  

The Clay Jammers and Design classes are full so if you are interested, stop by the office to sign up for the waiting list.

10TH DISTRICT PTSA REFLECTION EXHIBIT AND RECEPTION IS SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH BETWEEN 1:00-4:00 PM

The award recipients from this year’s Reflections Art Contest will be honored on Sunday, February 24, 2013 at the 10th District PTSA Auditorium (1000 Venice Boulevard, Los Angeles, CA  90015).  Come by and see the amazing works of art that our MWES students created.  For more information please check out the REFLECTIONS RECEPTION FLYER.

AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT CLASSES – DESIGN AND SCIENCE (3RD SESSION) START THIS WEDNESDAY

Design Class: Starting THIS Wednesday, February 6th, Barbara Sultan (www.da-max.com) will be teaching students sketching techniques, how to draw clothing and create new designs. The class will be in Room 16 from 3:00 to 4:00pm. It is open to grades 2-6, 10 students maximum (once the class is full, the office will start a wait list). Tuition for this class is free (supplies must be purchased- 2 supplies scholarships are available). For more information please check out the Design Flyer.

Science (3rd Session): The third session of Hightouch Hightech also starts THIS Wednesday, February 6th. The first class will be from 2:45-3:45 pm and second class will be from 3:45-4:45pm, both classes will be in the MPR. Tuition for this session is $96. ONE SCHOLARSHIP PER CLASS is available. Clay Jammers: Next Monday, February 11th, Clay Jammers will be starting. Children will be able to create musical instruments, plants, animals, strange buildings and strange lands in clay. A balance of functional and sculptural objects sometimes combined with less traditional materials makes this an EXCITING class that will keep MWES students wondering what else they can do with clay.
