GREY MATTERS: Are you confused by the plethora and often conflicting information of research-based parenting experts? Do you wish you knew more about your child’s brain? Are you overwhelmed by the amount of pop press that purports to solve all your child’s academic and behavior challenges and don’t understand how it applies to your family? The STAR Education Resource Station has hired a team of doctoral level neuroscientists and psychologists who have developed a program designed to give you a parent-tailored framework for understanding how your child’s brain works. STAR EDUCATION - AMID THE SOUNDS OF CHILDREN PLAYING, AND THE INCOMING FALL SEASON, MANY GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING HERE AT THE MT. WASHINGTON STAR PROGRAM.

Perhaps you’ve heard rumblings about SUPER STAR Tuesdays? Or received a flyer invitation to the Enchanted Green Hallow’s Eve event Oct 26th & 27th? How about setting a date for our Winter Extravaganza Theatre production? Here’s what all the excitement’s about!
  • Halloween is fast approaching, and that means our Enchanted Green Hallow’s Eve event is nearly here too! This is a fabulous weekend event what will be held at our headquarters in Culver City on Saturday Oct 26, and Sunday October 27. If you haven’t been to a STAR event at the HQ trust it is well worth the drive!!! This is one of our bigger and most exciting events of the year. There’ll be mazes, costume contests, face painting (perhaps done by Mr. Dan himself?), food, prizes, and much more.
  • Our STAR theatre actors have received their scripts and music CD’s, and begun learning their parts for our Adventures in Broadwayland production and I am super happy to announce the date for our show. SAVE THE DATE: STAR Winter Extravaganza Monday, December 16th @ 5:00pm!!! Stay tuned for more details as we get closer to our big event; it’s going to be fantastic!
  • Tuesday Oct 15th will be our first SUPER STAR Tuesday!
  • Once a month we will also name our SUPER STAR Students of the month in an All-STAR assembly.
  • Sports on Monday will be replaced with a Kid’s Choice rotation where students can choose between playing Board Games (Chess, Sorry!, Connect 4, etc.) or Yard Games (Duck-Duck-Goose, GaGa Ball (ask the kids about this one!), Knockout, etc.).
  • Tuesday STAR Art, and Tuesday IQ Go! Literacy has swapped places on our calendar.
  • Cooking on Friday’s will now take place bi-weekly, and alternate with STAR Science classes. During STAR Science we’ll be doing some fun hands on experiments & activities with the kids. Some classes will be food related, like the study of how our bodies digest food, while others may just be simple science awesomeness.
  • STAR Shop will now be held every other Friday during our Game Zone rotation (5:30-6:00pm).
  • We’ve also made a couple other class additions and schedule changes. Please pick up the October STAR Calendar to reference our daily activities in the STAR office at school.
Whoa… so much awesome, so little time! We trust your STAR students are enjoying their time afterschool with us, and we thank you for the opportunity to provide excellent learning opportunities for your children. They’re all wonderful young people, and we’re overjoyed to have them in our program. Feel free to call/email or stop by the STAR room if you have any questions or need more info about our classes/activities.
