Thank You!

Another school year is over and it is now that we take time to reflect on all that our children have accomplished and look back fondly on the memories that we created.  We would like to thank you for your hard work and dedication to all of our children. Whether you volunteered for one of our many events, volunteered on one of our committees, helped out in your child’s classroom, donated money or supported us by coming to our events, our PTA would not function without you.  From the bottom of our hearts, we THANK YOU!
Have a wonderful summer, and see you in September.

Parent Thank You Coffee & Pastries

Please join the PTA the morning of the last day of school, Friday, June 24th, at 8:00 am, to celebrate our hard working parents.  Thanks to our parents, it’s been another incredibly successful year beginning in August with our Back to School Picnic, and throughout the year with our Pancake Breakfast, Pumpkin Festival, Movie Nights, School Dances, and our morning Parent Education Workshops.  Much, much thanks and recognition to our Safety Valet volunteers who rain or shine, get our kids out of our cars safely and with a smile; and our Room Reps who make us better parents by keeping us up to date with what is going on in the classroom as well as school wide.
Whether you volunteered an hour, a day, every day, donated items or resources, your participation helped us raised over $36,000 to supplement valuable programs for our children.  You make our beautiful, neighborhood school what it is today and it is a true testament to the hard work and dedication our parents deliver day in and day out, year after year.
It is an honor to celebrate and recognize you. We look forward to seeing you Friday morning.

Congratulations Class of 2011!

Congratulations to our culminating class of 2011 and to their proud parents on all of your accomplishments here at Mt.Washington.  May you continue to make your parents and us proud in your future endeavors.  We wish you all the best and much success for the bright future that lies ahead.   Please come back and visit us often and tell us about all of the exciting things you will be doing in middle school.
Culmination will be on Thursday, June 23rd at 6:00pm in the MPR.

Mt.Washington End of Year Picnic, Friday June 24th at Rio de Los Angeles State Park, 1:30pm-5:30pm

Celebrate all that our children have accomplished this year and the beginning of summer with other Mt.Washington Families.  Enjoy a popsicle on us and bring a blanket and a picnic, some outdoor toys to play with and a towel in case you get wet.  Activities will include a wet sponge relay, water balloon toss and face painting.
El Rio de Los Angeles State Park, otherwise referred to as San Fernando Park or Taylor Yard Park, is located at 1900 San Fernando Rd, close to the Fed Ex Building.
We are asking for a donation of 5 - 10 filled water balloons per family.  Hope to see you there.

CALLING MT. WASHINGTON DADS!

The PTA is looking for a “Few Good Men” to pilot a M.O.R.E. (Men Organized to Raise Engagement) program at our school.  If you are interested or want to hear MORE, please contact incoming PTA President, Ariella Roberts at waysandmeans@mwpta.org.  This is an exciting opportunity to bring a different perspective to the MWE Community.  Collectively the members of the M.O.R.E. Program would be expected to organize a minimum of one program and one fundraiser for the year.  The goal is to encourage more participation and opportunities for our diverse families to get involved at our school.

MISSION: Coalition members of PTA MORE serve as a conduit for greater father and significant male involvement, resulting in positive outcomes and successful relationships for children, parents, schools and communities.

You can find more info and resources online at:http://www.pta.org/pta_more.asp
We hope to hear from you!

Happy Retirement Mrs. Park!

One of our most beloved teachers will finish out her career at the end of this school year.  To celebrate Mrs. Park’s career and say thank you for all that she has done for our children, we are having a party in her honor this Friday the 17th, from 2:45pm till 4:00pm in the Smith Center (MPR).  Join us for some cake, fruit salad, lemonade and endless hugs, a few surprises and some reminiscing.  We wish her a wonderful retirement and hope that she will visit us often.

Mrs.Park,
Sending you lots of kisses to your brain for having kissed ours everyday.
We Love You!

Safety Valet Needs You

For those of you who saw us perform at the Talent Show and for those who heard about it, here's your chance to be a part of this wonderful team of parent volunteers.

Safety Valet Volunteers Needed - We are in need of more volunteers for the 2011-12 school year.  Many of our volunteers are moving on to Middle School.  You can help by making a difference in your child’s safety at the school.  The Safety Valet Program has helped to relieve traffic congestion and increase the safety of your child when he/she is dropped off at school.  We need more parents to help with this program in the mornings from 7:35 – 8:15 AM.   As a volunteer you would work with two other parents 1 day a week or once every other week if you have a partner to split the shift with. You would be opening and closing the doors of cars as parents drive through the drop off zone, allowing children to get out of the car safely.   Please contact Andrea Jayasekera at andreabert@sbcglobal.net if you are interested in helping.  Thank you, Andrea Jayasekera (Parent Coordinator)
