FOMWS IS PROUD TO SPONSOR TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 12TH SCIENCE ASSEMBLIES FOR OUR CHILDREN PRESENTED BY ASTRONOMICAL JOURNEYS.



Get ready, get set for an out of this world 'Deep Space' adventure.  Grades K-2 and 3-6 will enjoy age appropriate science assemblies.  Bob Noss, with Astronomical Journeys, is back for a 2nd year and has a new kitten entering space for our grades K-2 assembly and our grades 3-6 kids will no doubt enjoy a 3D enhanced experience.  Both assemblies are during the school day so each child will get to participate and enjoy.

STARGAZING NIGHT, FRIDAY, MARCH 1ST. SPONSORED BY FOMWS, HOSTED BY PTA!

Starting at 5:30pm for your enjoyment food, baked goods and some 'fun stuff' will be for sale.  Help support the 6th graders by buying a beverage! The event will begin at 6:30pm with an awesome outdoor slide show followed by StarGazing!  Have questions? PARENTING WORKSHOP ON MARCH 7TH FROM 6:00 to 8:00PM – BE SURE TO SAVE THE DATE

Parent educator and consultant Amity Grimes will be facilitating a discussion on Single Parenting on March 7th from 6:00 – 8:00 pm.  Childcare will be provided and dinner will be available for purchase.  Amity wants to be sure to address the topics that are of interest to the MWES parents.  Some possible suggested topics are:  (1) discipline issues with co-parenting, (2) giving children permission to love both parents, (3) parenting totally on your own and (4) talking about complicated subjects such as death, separation, divorce, remarriage, blended families, and adoption.  Please be sure to contact Nicole Thomas at programs@mwpta.org to let us know what topics interest you the most or let us know what additional topics you’d like Amity to cover.  More details will be provided as the date gets closer.

THANK YOU FOR ATTENDING THE PTA GENERAL ASSOCIATION MEETING AND COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL

Thank you to all who showed up on Friday, January 25th for the general association meeting and coffee with the principal.  The Nominating Committee was voted in by the PTA members and will soon be taking on the responsibility of recruiting qualified nominees to be elected as PTA officers for the “2013-2014" school year.  If you are interested in being a PTA board member next year, please contact the PTA Parliamentarian, Anvi Kevany at parliamentarian@mwpta.org.

AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT PROGRAMS

Design Class:  Barbara Sultan (www.da-max.com) will be teaching students sketching techniques, how to draw clothing and create new designs.  The class will be in Room 16 from 3:00 to 4:00pm on Wednesdays starting February 6th - March 20th.  It is open to grades 2-6, 10 students maximum.  Tuition for this class is free (supplies must be purchased- 2 supplies scholarships are available).  A flyer will be coming home soon.

Science (3rd Session):  The third session of Hightouch Hightech after school science program starts Wednesday, February 6th and goes until April 10th.  The first session will be from 2:45-3:45 pm and second will be from 3:45-4:45pm, both sessions in the MPR.  The third session is $96.  ONE SCHOLARSHIP PER CLASS is available.  To inquire parents can contact Nicole Thomas (via email at programs@mwpta.org), the office, or the teacher of the class directly.  For additional details, please see the Science Flyer.

Clay Jammers.  Musical instruments, plants, animals, strange buildings and strange lands will be created in clay.  A balance of functional and sculptural objects sometimes combined with less traditional materials makes this an EXCITING class that will keep MWES students wondering what else they can do with clay. Classes will be on Mondays, starting Monday, February 11, 2013 thru April 29, 2013.  Class (K-6) will start at 2:30 and end at 4:00.  The 10 week session is $100.  For more information please see the Clay Jammer Flyer.

THERE IS A MT. WASHINGTON ASSOCIATION, GENERAL MEETING THIS MONDAY, JANUARY 28, 2013, 7:30 PM IN THE MPR


Supervisor Gloria Molina will give an update on Grand Park located in Downtown nestled between the Ahmanson Theatre and City Hall and a short Gold Line ride away from Mt. Washington. It features vibrant programs for both children and adults. Supervisor Molina will share how her vision helped make the park a reality.

Also brief presentation on the Summer in China Program for kids ages 12 -17 will be presented by Warren Christensen.  Everyone welcome!

SAVE THE DATE! SECRET GARDEN FAMILY VALENTINE’S DANCE ON FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 8TH FROM 6:00 – 8:00 PM IN THE MPR

The Valentine’s Dance is being hosted by the nearly 50 Girl Scouts of our community’s Troop #1955! Come out and enjoy this annual Mt. Washington event and raise money for our local girl scouts AND the school!  Donations are accepted for admission at the door.  Dancing with DJ Todd, Bake Sale, Photos, Games, and more!   

*No drop-offs.  All children must be accompanied by an adult. No yard supervision.

PTA GENERAL ASSOCIATION MEETING/COFFEE WITH THE PRINCIPAL WILL BE ON FRIDAY, JANUARY 25TH AT 8:15


The PTA General Association meeting is this Friday, January 25, 2013 at 8:15 a.m. and will be combined with Coffee with the Principal.  This is an important meeting as the “Nominating Committee” for the next year’s PTA Board will be voted in by the PTA members.  The Nominating Committee has the responsibility of recruiting qualified nominees to be elected as PTA officers for the” 2013-2014" school year.  In addition, you’ll be able to hear directly from Mrs. Valentino what is going on at our school and to ask questions and have discussions in an informal setting.
