THE BOOK FAIR IS HERE!


Come and visit the Book Fair this week at the Jack and Denny Smith Library:

*  Tuesday, April 30th from 8:30 am to 3:00 pm

*  Wednesday, May 1st from 8:30 to 3:00 pm

*  Thursday, May 2nd from 8:30 to 1:00 pm & special OPEN HOUSE hours from 5:00 to 7:00 pm

At Thursday’s Open House, come a little early to grab a scrumptious dinner from the Border Grill Truck, visit the Book Fair, and buy a book or two for your teacher's classroom. Also, watch out for your teacher's wish list online, your teacher or room rep will be emailing the information shortly.

If you are not able to make it to the Book Fair, you can also shop online, from April 24 to May 14. Just click on the following link: BOOKFAIR ONLINE SHOPPING. All book orders will be shipped free to the school.

Ready to come and see what your child has been doing this year? Well Open House this Thursday, May 2nd is the perfect opportunity! MWES’ wonderful teaching staff will be opening up their classrooms and letting our children show us all their hard work. You will be amazed by all that they have accomplished. We are very proud of our children for their efforts and the academic growth and can’t wait to show you.

It isn't too late to donate your unwanted items. In fact, all miscellaneous articles are welcomed. Just bring them to "Superior Market" (Figueroa & Avenue 45) between 7AM and 10AM, this Saturday, May 4th. If you cannot bring items that morning, please call 213/308-8954 or email nnapnow@aol.com to make other pick-up arrangements. Please consider donating books, appliances, lamps, furniture (good condition only), car accessories, clothes, toys, athletic equipment, bicycles, lawn & gardening, office equipment & building materials of any kind. This is a time to clean out your garages, attics & crawl spaces. New & Used Items in decent condition will not be turned away.

If every person brings 3 things they no longer need, this flea market will have over 1,000 items to sell!

FRESH & EASY FINAL UPDATE


The check for Fresh & Easy has come in. Just for shopping at our local market and saving our receipts, our school raised $5,226.74. An all time record for Mt. Washington Elementary!!!! A great BIG thank you to all the parents and staff for saving your receipts and shopping a little extra.

ARROYO SECO LIBRARY IS HOSTING A MINIMALIST PUPPETRY WORKSHOP ON TUESDAY, APRIL 30TH AT 3:30PM


This Thursday, April 30th, the Arroyo Seco Library will be hosting a Minimalist Puppetry Workshop at 3:30 pm. The workshop is free and open to all ages. The Arroyo Seco Library is located at 6145 N. Figueroa Street, Los Angeles, CA 90042 (Phone: (323) 255-0537).

WRECK-IT RALPH A WONDERFUL TIME!

Thank you to all the Mt. Washington families who came out and enjoyed a good movie, great food, and fun merchandise. We sold out of nearly everything showing what a huge turn-out we had! Special recognition to our Movie Night Chairperson, Cecilia Vasquez for the phenomenal evening. Thank you to all of the parent volunteers who helped prep, set-up, sell food and clean-up. We had gross sales at this movie night of $848 ~ WOW...way to go Mt. Washington Elementary!

ARE YOU READY FOR MWES’ BOOK FAIR: APRIL 30TH – MAY 2ND

The Scholastic Book Fair will be at our school from April 30 to May 2, 2013 and the special Family Event is scheduled for May 2, from 5:00 to 7:30 pm, during Open House.

The exciting theme for our spring 2013 Book Fair is Story Laboratory: Reading Gives You Super Power! The Book Fair is an incredible energy source for reading, and volunteers are the catalyst for a successful Book Fair. We hope you will share your talents and join us as we help students discover the power of reading.

If you have some time to help us set-up on April 29, conduct the Book Fair on April 30, May 1, or May 2, including Family Night/Open House on May 2, and break-down the Book Fair on May 3, please email Anvi Kevany at anvi@mwpta.org, or go to http://bit.ly/volunteerspring2013, to sign up online.

THANK YOU MT. WASHINGTON ELEMENTARY SCHOOL FAMILIES!


Our California Pizza Kitchen restaurant night-the last one of this school year-was a good success. Those of us attending enjoyed great food, great company and raised great money for our school. California Pizza Kitchen is kindly donating back to MWE $769.16 as a result of our evening-we love our CPK! Thank you all for your continued support and generosity. Keep an eye on the thermometer outside the Parent Center....an update is coming!

WELL THE VOTES ARE IN...THE KIDS HAVE SPOKEN! WRECK-IT-RALPH IS THE #1 MOVIE MWES KIDS WANT TO SEE. FREE FAMILY MOVIE NIGHT IS THIS FRIDAY, APRIL 19TH


Food sales begin at 6:00pm, movie will begin at 6:30pm. Come watch a movie with your family, friends & neighbors. Please bring low-back chairs, pillows, blankets & kids are welcome to wear pajamas. Hot dogs, pizza, popcorn, cotton candy & other fun stuff will be sold! Early tickets for "Kid Kits" will include a raffle ticket for a chance to win the movie DVD OR purchase a "Parent Plate" both will be sold mornings 4/15-4/18 in front of school. PARENTS! The film is rated PG. All children must be accompanied by an adult. NO DROP OFFS! Supervision is not provided.

CST/ CMA TESTING CONTINUES THIS WEEK


CST/CMA testing continues again this week for grades 2-6. Testing will occur in the morning hours before recess on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Be sure to get to bed early and have a high protein breakfast.
